Well, school has been out for a little over a week and I am holding my own so far. Frank was on vacation last week and quite honestly it didn't really feel like summer vacation with him home. It just felt like a VERY LOOONG weekend. I know that sounds terrible, but really it is just like have an extra child to deal with. So, this is the third day of break with him at work and it is really starting to feel like summer. Complete with arguments from the kids, but happily not as many, so far, as in years past. So far the biggest has been over Brandon eating the last doughnut.
So, since Frank was off last week and we couldn't really afford to go on a "vacation", we (I) surfed the web for a really fun one day trip. Success! Cool River Tubing in Helen,GA. Only about 1 hour and 45 minutes away. For only $5 each we got to take a 2 hour tubing trip down the Chattahoochee River. Amazingly fun! For the most part it was really slow moving water about knee deep on me. I had a lot of time to reflect on God's amazing gift of nature. Said lots of prayers of thanksgiving while floating leisurely down the river. Of course, I said a lot of prayers of "God help me get un-stuck." As I got stuck in every possible place. My tube just seemed to be drawn to the lower level edges of the river and few bigger rocks. I was also very surprised when I was flipped over and thought I would drown! My feet kept slipping on the slick rocks and I kept falling back under the water. I have never been able to hold my breath under water without holding my nose. So I was really floundering. But, I survived. I am sure it only lasted about 2 seconds, but it sure seemed like about 10 minutes to me! This incident invoked another prayer in me. "Lord, please don't let me flip over, please don't let me flip over!" Needless to say, it took me a little more than 2 hours (like almost 3!). Grayson and Kendal (our nephew) finished about 30 minutes before me. Frank and Brandon about 10 minutes before me.(All but Grayson started out WAY behind me.)
But other than that I have to say "A great time was had by all!" Let me just suggest, if you decide to do it, to either take a stick or rent one of the "push sticks" from them ($5). It will need to be about 3 feet long, like a walking stick for hiking. If I had had one, I wouldn't have gotten stuck so much and when I did, I would've had a way to get myself out much easier. I can't wait to do it again, hopefully with all my siblings and their families along with my dad and "Pumpkin"-a close family friend. Should be even more fun with the river full of loved ones to laugh at! HA! HA!
